How Stress Lives in the Body
(And How Energy Healing Helps Release It)
Most of us think of stress as something that happens in the mind. Deadlines, responsibilities, and daily pressures create mental overwhelm—but the truth is, stress doesn’t stay in the mind alone. It lives in the body.
You might notice it as tight shoulders, headaches, digestive discomfort, jaw tension, or difficulty sleeping. These physical sensations are often your body’s way of holding onto unresolved stress and emotional strain.
When the nervous system stays in a constant state of alert—often called “fight or flight”—the body never gets the signal that it’s safe to relax. Over time, this tension builds and becomes stored in the muscles, tissues, and energetic system of the body.
This is where energy healing practices like Reiki and sound baths can be especially powerful.
Rather than trying to force the body to relax, these practices gently guide the nervous system back into its natural “rest and restore” state. During a Reiki session or sound bath, the body begins to slow down. Breathing deepens, muscles soften, and the mind becomes quieter.
As the body relaxes, stored stress can begin to release.
Some people experience this as emotional relief, a sense of warmth or lightness, or simply a deep feeling of calm. Others notice better sleep, clearer thinking, or a reduction in physical tension after sessions.
Healing doesn’t always come from pushing harder or doing more. Sometimes the most effective way to release stress is by creating space for the body to reset.
When the nervous system feels safe again, the body remembers how to heal.
