What to Expect During Your First Reiki Session

Trying something new can feel a little intimidating—especially when it involves energy healing. One of the most common questions people ask is simple: What actually happens during a Reiki session?

The truth is, a Reiki session is one of the most calming and gentle experiences you can have.

When you arrive at Sacred Light Reiki, Anne Valing begins by creating a quiet, welcoming space where you can fully relax. You’ll lie comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed, often with soft music playing in the background. Some clients choose to close their eyes or meditate, while others simply rest.

During the session, Anne places her hands lightly on or just above different areas of the body. Reiki works by channeling universal life energy to help balance the body’s natural energy systems. As this energy flows, it supports your nervous system in shifting from a state of stress into a state of deep relaxation.

Everyone’s experience is a little different. Some people feel warmth, tingling, or a gentle pulsing sensation. Others feel deeply relaxed, almost as if they are drifting between sleep and wakefulness. Many clients report feeling lighter, calmer, and more centered afterward.

You don’t have to believe in anything special for Reiki to work. The goal isn’t to “fix” you—it’s to help your body remember its natural ability to heal, rebalance, and restore itself.

After your session, Anne may share any observations or insights that came up during the healing. Many clients leave feeling not only physically relaxed but emotionally clearer and energetically refreshed.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, drained, or simply curious about energy healing, your first Reiki session can be the gentle reset your body and mind have been asking for.

Sometimes the most powerful step in healing is simply allowing yourself to slow down and receive.
